Winter Spiced Citrus Apple Tea
Sweet, spicy, warming and nourishing. This is such a beautiful tea for the cold weather, especially when poured into your favourite mug and enjoyed while rugged up on the couch with your favourite blanket. Really though, it’s lovely any time of day or night, in any type of weather and in any location. Enjoy!
Makes about 2-3 cups
2 apples (skin on), cut into chunks
2 oranges (peeled), quartered
2 cinnamon sticks
4 cups water
Additional spice options:
2cm knob of ginger, thinly sliced
2 cardamom pods
1 star anise
1 whole nutmeg
5 cloves
1. Put everything into a pot on the stove. Turn the heat up to high and pop the lid on
2. Allow it to come to a boil, then turn it down and let it simmer for 30 minutes
3. Take the tea off the heat. Leave it to sit with the lid on for another 10 minutes
4. Strain the tea (a sieve or pasta colander works well - press it through firmly so you get all the flavour from the apples and oranges). Don’t throw out the bits you’ve strained - the apple and orange are delicious with porridge or yoghurt; and the cinnamon and optional extras are great for stewing some fruit like apples or pears
5. Pour into your favourite mug and enjoy!
P.S. You can keep any leftovers in a jar and store in the fridge, then reheat whenever you like
