Nina Kingsford-Smith | Nutritionist

Hi there,

I’m Nina and I’m a non-diet nutritionist (BHSc NutDMed). Thanks for stopping by!

I’m all about helping you find your happy place with food. I’m a firm believer that it’s not simply what you eat, but your thoughts, feelings and behaviours around food that matter. After all, food is deeply about the mental and emotional. We aren’t machines and we don’t function separately from our thoughts, feelings and behaviours. We are deeply complex and unique beings, and our relationships with food are deeply complex and unique too. These relationships are just as important, or even more important, than the food we eat.

Are you confused or overwhelmed by all of the conflicting nutrition advice out there?
Are you always trying out the latest health trends or diets?
Do you fear or avoid certain foods?
Do you experience anxiety, shame or guilt around food?
Do you restrict yourself around food, eat in secret, over eat or binge eat?
Do you struggle with issues around body image?

So often, food is surrounded by fear, anxiety and overwhelm. But I’m here to let you know that it doesn’t have to be this way. I’m here to hold a safe space for you, listen to you and your unique story, help you remove guilt and anxiety around nourishing your body, reconnect with food and yourself in a loving joyful way, let go of diet mentality, and develop a way of eating that truly works for you. You deserve to experience these things, you are worthy.

Importantly, I also take an evidence based approach; and love that specific foods and nutrients can be used therapeutically to support our bodies and minds in certain ways. I understand that we’re all different, with different taste preferences and circumstances. I love working with you to create recommendations that are realistic and that you’ll enjoy. With a Bachelor of Health Science majoring in Nutritional and Dietetic Medicine, I know the scientific and traditional evidence behind this information; specific preparation methods and doses; and when to, and when not to, prescribe certain nutrients and foods depending on your unique situation. I also believe that skills and knowledge (around food, our bodies and ourselves) are key to empowerment and joy, and will help you build these things which you can keep for life.

Nina is a helpful and extremely knowledgable nutritionist and I am so glad to have found her. She is very friendly all the while still maintaining a high level of professionalism with each consult. Nina creates realistic goals and plans that align with what is best for your health but also your lifestyle. I always feel I can be honest with Nina about how I am going following my treatment plan and she is understanding and accomodating. I have learned a lot about nutrition from her and have improved my overall health and wellbeing with her guidance. Her knowledge and analysis of my blood tests and information about my lifestyle (and it’s impact on my physical health) is impressive and really beneficial. If you are considering seeing Nina, I highly recommend booking a consult with her!
— E.M.
It has been such a huge sigh of relief to have found Nina. Not once have I felt an ounce of shame about anything with Nina, which is huge for me! ! I am happy to take things slowly in a sustainable way because I know the changes we are making are for life, and I am so happy to finally be on this journey of improved health in a way that is without stress and achievable. I would absolutely recommend her (& have been!) to everyone and anyone!

How I can help you

With a special interest in disordered eating and supporting your relationship with food, I’ll work with you to help you find your happy place with food, your body and yourself. Together we can:

  • Address disordered eating patterns and habits – it’s important to work with disordered eating soon, before these habits become diagnosable eating disorders. But no matter what stage you’re at (‘disordered eating’ or ‘eating disorder’), I’m here to help. These may include overeating, binge eating, restricting food, compensatory behaviours such as purging or excessive exercise, body image concerns, repetitive dieting, a fixation with counting calories or weighing food, and orthorexia (an obsession with only eating ‘healthy’ food).

  • Address anxiety, stress and any other co-existing health concerns - my experience has shown me that struggles around food and body are often tied up with anxiety and stress, as well as other concerns like digestive and hormonal health, and these are other passion areas of mine.

  • Navigate the confusing world of nutrition and ‘healthy eating’, and tune into yourself – we’ll shut out the external noise, dismantle rules around food and let go of diet mentality. Instead, we’ll build your confidence and trust in tuning in to yourself and making your own decisions around food. Here, we’ll often incorporate intuitive eating philosophies and practices.

  • Look beyond what you eat – and also consider your thoughts, feelings and behaviours around food. Here, we’ll often incorporate mindful eating philosophies and practices.

  • Take a holistic and individualised approach – by going beyond nutrition to incorporate various lifestyle aspects to help you create realistic, enjoyable and long lasting changes – physically, mentally and emotionally. I’ll also take into account your unique goals, challenges, likes and dislikes, history and circumstances.

What I won’t do is give you a diet or meal plan to follow, count calories, weigh you or use other rigid rules. Instead, we’ll turn our focus to helping you trust yourself and improve your relationship with food, your body and yourself.

Nina has helped me immensely in finding a more balanced approach to food and a better relationship with my body.
She provides a safe and non-judgemental space to explore challenging emotions around food and body image. I’m so grateful for Nina’s ongoing support and would highly recommend her to anyone seeking food freedom :)
— R.M.
With her non-judgemental and caring demeanour, throughout our sessions I consistently felt listened to and cared for.
I would definitely recommend Nina to anybody who is looking to improve their relationship with food, reduce their stress and feel cared for.

My philosophy

  • Food is about love and joy – it doesn’t need be surrounded by fear, anxiety, guilt, confusion or shame. Food is this beautiful thing that’s here nourish you and allow you to experience all that life has to offer.

  • Nutrition is about way more than just what you eat – it’s also about your thoughts, feelings and behaviours around food. Here, I love to incorporate mindful philosophies and practices. I also love to help you build your knowledge and skills around food so that you can feel truely empowered and excited.

  • …and health is about way more than just nutrition – it’s also about your self care, sleep, energy levels, lifestyle factors, likes and dislikes, unique circumstances and more.

  • There’s no one size fits all – what works for your sister, friend, mum or Beyonce won’t necessarily work for you. Even what works for you at one point in your life won’t necessarily work for you at another point. Give yourself permission to adopt a flexible and intuitive approach to food and health, notice how you and your body feel around certain foods, and use that as a cue about what works for you.

  • There’s no such thing as the ‘perfect’ diet – and aiming to have one is impossible (and unenjoyable) if you ask me!

  • Finding your happy place with food is enjoyable, powerful and transformative…not expensive, complicated or boring.

Nina is a down to earth practitioner with a wealth of knowledge focused on delivering the best outcomes for her clients. I am so thankful for Nina’s support, wisdom and guidance to repair my body from past diets, habits, and rules around food. Highly recommend going to see Nina, you will see results.
