Spicy Savoury Seed Sprinkle
Mmmm these spiced savoury seeds are one of my favourite ways to instantly liven up any meal with both flavour and texture. They feature a delicious blend of spices and seeds – think mustard, fennel, cumin, coriander, cayenne, flax, pepitas, sunflower seeds and more. I love adding them on my morning avo on toast, salads, soups, veggies, poached chicken, eggs and all sorts of things. They also work great as an addition to platters and cheese boards (sprinkle them over a dip or on top of some goats cheese to really liven it up!) Last but not least, eat them on it’s own as a savoury snack. Try them out and let me know your favourite way to enjoy them!
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil
2 teaspoons mustard seeds
2 teaspoons fennel seeds
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon coriander
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
pinch of cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
2 tablespoons flax seeds
1/3 cup pepitas
1/3 cup sunflower seeds
1. Heat a pan over low to medium heat and add the oil
2. Add the mustard and fennel seeds and stir occasionally
3. Once they begin to pop, add the spices and stir continuously for about 30 seconds
4. Add the sesame seeds, flax seeds, pepitas and sunflower seeds and keep stirring for about 3 to 5 minutes
5. Once your kitchen starts to smell deliciously aromatic and the seeds begin to look toasted, transfer to a plate lined with a tea towel or paper towel to cool properly
6. Enjoy!
P.S. Store in a glass jar in the fridge
