Favourite Festive Foods

Oooh it’s the holiday season, can you feel the festive vibes? I want to share with you some of my favourite Christmas foods to get the festive spirit going. Enjoy!

All things spiced
Ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom, allspice…these are some of my favourite things about Christmastime. Be it this awesome fun festive popcorn, these spiced nuts, gingerbread, a special Christmas spiced hot cacao, or even these Christmas ginger breakfast trifles…the smells and taste of mixed warming spices are so quintessentially Christmas.

Delicious summery salads
Ooh I love all the different salads that come out at Christmas lunches, dinners and picnics? I quite like exploring a different recipe each year, rather than having a go to recipe I opt for every time. Some of my favourite salads have come from Coles and Woolworths magazines, there are some gems in there! This salad was one of my all time favourites I made a few years ago, and this salad also looks delicious.

Hazelnuts
Does anyone else associate hazelnuts with Christmas? I’m not sure if it’s because, as a kid, I seem to remember us always having Ferrero Rochers at Christmastime. Or maybe it’s just because. Either way, I love putting them into recipes at this time of year. They’re fabulous in desserts (like theeeese Christmas hazlenut gingerbread biscuits…yes you’ll be drooling with delight, or toasted and added to salads.

Summer fruits
Summer fruit is another thing I love about this time of year. Stone fruit, cherries, mangoes…all so classically Australian summer and Christmas combined! A delicious fruit salad is such a delightful and simple way to enjoy them. If you’re wanting something a little different, give this recipe starring stone fruit a go. Or berries are another summer fruit fave, and are featured in this tart.

Trifle and pavlova
Ahhh I had to put these together as they’re two of my all time favourite Christmas desserts that often feature at Christmas family lunch for us. The past few years I’ve made a delicious trifle with layers of brandy and orange soaked sponge, maple vanilla yoghurt and stone fruit, topped with slivered toasted almonds and more fruit…so good if I do say so myself! My aunt is also very famous for her pavlova and it is amaaaaazing!

Food as gifts
I love making food for people as gifts, it’s like my love language. Some of the recipes I’ve mentioned above area great gift ideas, like these Christmas spiced nuts or these biscuits. Homemade chocolate is another awesome gift idea, and always looks so pretty too. Give this chocolate bark recipe a try…it’s fun to make too!.

So there you have it folks, some of my favourite festive foods! Whatever you do other the festive season and however you spend it, I hope you have a lovely and restful time x
